Georgia Work$ training initiative to stimulate job growth and hiring
Georgia Department of Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond has created Georgia Work$ which allows unemployment insurance (UI) claimants to draw UI benefits while receiving workplace training from a potential employer for a maximum of 24 hours per week for up to six weeks.

Benefits to employers are pre-screened qualified individuals; up to six weeks of pre-employment training; trainee stipends covered by GDOL; hiring of trainees at discretion of employers; and workers' compensation coverage provided by GDOL.

Claimants qualify for up to $600 in training stipends (an average of $100 weekly) to help defray training related costs such as child care and transportation. Upon completion of training, participants receive credentials of acquired job skills and are considered for employment. About 60 percent of those who complete GW$ training have been hired.

Employers interested in participating in Georgia Work$ should click here for the training request form: http://www.dol.state.ga.us/pdf/forms/georgia_works_training_request.pdf.
