New Feature Exhibit Opens November 12 A Collectible Christmas

A new Feature Exhibit: A Collectible Christmas, A Department 56 Christmas collection, is scheduled to open November 12 at the Bartow History Museum in Cartersville. The display showcases pieces from the Zelma “Zel” Burnett collection.

According to Kelly Burnett, Zel’s daughter, “The village started humbly enough with ‘Big Bill's Service Station,’ a logical choice given that her husband, Bill Burnett, was the Pure Oil distributor in Bartow County. The village expanded year-by-year, ultimately becoming a major metropolitan area complete with houses, churches, shops, city hall, ice-skating rink, and train service for its tiny inhabitants. Each year, she would erect the village from the ‘ground up,’ and her reward was measured in smiles as the Village's detail and whimsy delighted children and the young-at-heart who saw it. Zel loved everything about Christmas and created her own Christmas wonderland.”

A Collectible Christmas, which is estimated to include over 200 pieces, will be on display through January 7, 2017. For more information on this and other museum programs, call 770-387-2774 or visit our website at www.BartowHistoryMuseum.org.
