Liberty Tax Service Offers Affordable Care Act/Obamacare Assistance

Office open NOW!!  to help residents apply for exemptions to health care law

Cartersville Ga -  November 5, 2014 – Liberty Tax Service wants to remind local residents that it’s not
too late to file for an exemption to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or Obamacare. By obtaining
an exemption an individual could reduce his or her tax burden this year, the first year in which
the healthcare law will have tax consequences.

“Many people still are confused about the law and its requirements. They don’t know about the
exemptions or their eligibility for an exemption,” said Eddie Hepler, Liberty Tax Office Owner.

ACA requires all Americans or legal residents to have health insurance, have an exemption to
coverage, or pay a penalty. Penalties for 2014 start at $95 but can reach almost $2,500 for an
individual or more than $12,000 for a family with five or more members, based on taxable
household income, as time goes on.

Exemptions are available for a wide range of reasons, including: religious objections, hardship,
membership in a federally recognized tribe, membership in a healthcare sharing ministry,
affordability of coverage, and incarceration. Individuals and families can apply for exemptions
now or when they file their taxes.   Liberty Tax recommends that they apply now because
processing the exemption paperwork takes time, and it could delay a tax refund.

Liberty Tax Service is ready and able to assist those who need to file paperwork for an
exemption. Liberty will provide the service free of charge.

“Our goal is to help the people of Georgia, specifically Cartersville/Bartow County,  with this new law, and try to eliminate unpleasant surprises come tax time,” said Landis.
Along with exemptions, Liberty can help with other ACA questions or health insurance
enrollment. Most offices will open on November 15, and will remain open through tax season.
