The Hope Center Celebrates 10 Years of Regional Cancer Care

Since The Hope Center at Cartersville Medical Center opened its doors in 2003, we have evaluated over 3,000 new patients and delivered 50,000 radiation therapy treatments.  We are justifiably proud of our accomplishments over the past ten years.  In addition to serving Bartow County residents, we see referrals from seven surrounding counties and three states, making it a cancer care resource for Northwest Georgia and beyond.  We refer to, and receive referrals from, leading cancer centers in the Southeast and participate in cutting-edge clinical trials of promising new cancer treatments.  We are an accredited Community Cancer Center by the American College of Surgeons, indicating an ongoing commitment to meeting the highest national standards for quality community cancer care.

The impact of The Hope Center on medical care in Bartow County cannot be overemphasized.  When we opened the Radiation Oncology Center in December, 2003, we were the only office open in the 19,000 square foot building.  Since then, Cartersville Medical Center and its medical staff have grown dramatically.  The Hope Center building is occupied on all three floors with specialists in infectious disease, kidney disease, cardiology, otolaryngology, pediatrics, allergy and immunology and medical oncology.  Additionally, the hospital has expanded services in all areas including pulmonology, critical care and the emergency room, as well as additional bed space expansions.   Along with excellent cancer care, CMC is a leader in national quality indices, including recognition by the Joint Commission as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Pneumonia and Surgical Care.

On Thursday, April 24th, we will celebrate our 10th Anniversary by hosting the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce “Business After Hours” from 5 until 7 p.m.  The 10th Anniversary Celebration is meant to be a true community celebration, and it is my sincere wish that you, the business and community leaders of our county, will join us on this day!  We will honor representatives of our patients, past and present, and will be dedicating a new symbol of hope and healing for our future patients!  We look forward to a wonderful evening!

    Yours in Good Health,
William W. Thoms, Jr., MD FACR
Medical Director, The Hope Center at Cartersville Medical Center
    Cancer Committee Chair
