Georgia Boat Safety and Training and TowBoatUS Lake Allatoona Offers Powerboat Training for Teens Ages 13-19, Skipper Club™

Acworth, Georgia August 02, 2020 – Georgia Boat Safety and Training, has partnered with the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) to offer teens ages 13-19 with on-water instruction for essential powerboating skills and maneuvers.

“We’re proud to partner with Georgia Boat Safety and Training to build the next generation of safe boaters through on-water training,” said Peg Phillips, executive director of the National Safe Boating Council, a catalyst for recreational boating safety. “Our network of NSBC certified instructors provide the best powerboat knowledge and skills for teens.”

Skipper Club provides teens with on-water instruction adhering to the American National Standard for on-water, recreational powerboating skills. After teens complete the on-water courses, they are a Skipper Club member and will participate in networking and on-water experiences at their local club.

“We have been very excited to launch this program for Lake Allatoona. We saw a need for it and believe it will enhance the knowledge of our future boaters.”

The Skipper Club curriculum is adapted from the NSBC’s Close Quarters and Open Water Boat Control program, divided into four modules designed to cover all elements of EDU-1 On-Water Power Standards, the American National Standard for on-water, recreational powerboating skills. A student must complete all four modules to meet the ANS standard. Each module is approximately 3 hours long, but time length may vary depending on the age and boating experience of the student. Please note, this is not a certification program.

U.S. Coast Guard statistics show that 81 percent of recreational boating fatalities occurred when the boat operator had no boating safety instruction.
