Harbin Clinic is excited to welcome Dr. Ryan Chizner to Harbin Clinic Cardiology Cartersville. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Harbin Clinic team, and he will begin seeing patients on November 14.
Dr. Ryan Chizner grew up in a medical family dedicated to caring for others. His mother is a speech pathologist and his father is a cardiologist. They taught him about the medical community and caring for others from a young age. His father’s physician philosophy still resonates with him and influences his approach to patient-centered care: “Cure if you can, alleviate if you cannot, but always comfort and support, and never take away hope.”
Dr. Chizner was first drawn to cardiology because he had a passion for the challenging intellectual work and the art of medicine. After he began working with patients during medical training, Dr. Chizner fell in love with the music of the heart. He was fascinated with the abnormal sounds of different heart conditions as well as with how family predisposition and environment could affect those conditions. He was also drawn to cardiology as it is a field of constant innovation where he was continually learning new things.
With interventional cardiology specifically, he soon learned he was able to conduct direct hands-on procedures on patients. Describing his experiences, Dr. Chizner explained, “Interventional cardiology is a field where I could see an immediate response to the care that I could provide. It is intellectually challenging while also requiring great physical skill.”
For example, early in his medical career, Dr. Chizner remembers a patient who presented to his office with worsening shortness of breath. At first glance, the patient appeared to be physically fit with no previous heart issues. After examination, however, Dr. Chizner identified a heart murmur. The murmur was a mitral valve regurgitation (or a leaky heart valve), and the patient would require surgery to have the valve replaced. After surgery, when Dr. Chizner followed up with the patient, he no longer had trouble breathing and was able to return to normal activities. Watching this patient get back to the things he enjoyed was a moment that always stuck with Dr. Chizner.
When asked about his practice and philosophies, Dr. Chizner speaks to how rewarding patient care is and how much he enjoys witnessing his patients’ recovery,
“When I think about what I love about my work, I really enjoy listening to patients and hearing their story. It affords me the opportunity to help improve their quality of life and to give them a chance to live a fulfilling life with their family and community. Witnessing patient recovery is also so rewarding to me. I love knowing I have played a role in helping them get back to a happy and healthy life.”
Now Dr. Chizner looks forward to his work at Harbin Clinic. He was not only impressed by the organization’s excellent patient-first care during his visit, but he also appreciated the warm personalities of the physician-led organization. He looks forward to raising his family in beautiful Northwest Georgia with the cultural hub of Atlanta nearby. Dr. Chizner is board certified in Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Adult Echocardiography, and Vascular Interpretation. He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Dr. Kiran C. Patel College Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. He completed his Cardiology Fellowship and went on for further training, completing an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Palmetto General Hospital, in affiliation with Dr. Kiran C.
