Lunch and Learn Scheduled for November 16th
Christmas at the Museum
The Bartow History Museum welcomes museum staffers Tina Shadden, Registrar, and Sandy Moore, Archive?s Assistant, to its Lunch and Learn series on November 16th at noon.
Moore will share details about the fascinating new feature exhibit opening November 12th, A Collectible Christmas, a Department 56® Christmas collection. The display will showcase the late Zelma ?Zel? Burnett collection, which includes houses, churches, shops, city hall, an ice-skating rink, village inhabitants, and much more. According to Moore, ?It is exciting to be able to share this wonderful collection with the community. It will be a treat for individuals to experience the collection this holiday season.? She adds, ?If you can?t attend the lecture, bring your kids or grand kids and experience it together.? The exhibit will be open until January 7th.
Walk with Shadden as she discusses the history behind some of the holiday décor and period appropriate gifts placed within the exhibits. ?For example?, Shadden states, ?natural materials like greenery, still used by some today to decorate their home, would have been a period appropriate decoration for antebellum homes, while tinsel trees were a familiar site in many homes in the 1960?s.? ?This is both an educational opportunity and a fun way to see the exhibits? says Trey Gaines, Director of the Museum.
