The Potters of Orange
On Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at noon, Bartow History Museum welcomes guest speakers, Ron Cooper and Jim McFarland, who will discuss Jim’s new book, The Potters of Orange, which focuses on 100 years of pottery from East-Central Cherokee County, Georgia. A book signing will follow the lecture.
Mr. McFarland, a native of Cherokee County and collector of pottery from the area, began noticing the connections that some potters had with Mr. Bill Gordy. Through the years, he began compiling information on these potters (and others from East Cherokee County) and thus had the foundation for his book, The Potters of Orange. Ron Cooper, a native of Bartow County from the Cass Station area, trained under Bill Gordy. He has been a potter for 34 years and is featured in McFarland’s book.
Lunch and Learn will take place at the Bartow History Museum located at 4 E. Church Street in downtown Cartersville. Parking is available next to the building. The lecture is free to members and included with the price of admission for not-yet members. Guests are invited to bring a lunch beginning at 11:45 a.m., and the program will begin at noon.
