On Thursday, June 28, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., the Bartow History Museum welcomes Clent Coker, author, historian and Museum Director of Historic Barnsley Gardens. Historic Barnsley opened as an attraction in 1991 and a few years later the Barnsley Gardens resort surrounding the ten acre historic area was constructed. Today, both the resort and historic gardens & museum receive thousands of national and international guests. Coker will discuss the history of Barnsley Gardens and the life of Godfrey Barnsley, one of Georgia’s wealthiest citizens, who began construction of the home in 1844 for his ailing wife, Julia. Coker’s book, Barnsley Gardens the Illustrious Dream, is now in its 10th printing, and he has appeared on several TV networks including the History Channel.
