Allatoona Lake is one of the most frequently visited Corps of Engineers lakes in the nation. Nearly 7 million visitors each year enjoy picnicking and swimming at our parks, camping, hunting, fishing, boating, and observing wildlife along the beautiful shoreline. On Wednesday, September 19, 2012 from noon until 1:00 p.m., Bartow History Museum welcomes guest speaker, Christopher Purvis, a Park Ranger with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Allatoona Lake. Mr. Purvis will discuss the history of the lake area both before and after the dam was built. Allatoona Lake was authorized by the Flood Control Acts of 1941 and 1946. It is located only 30 miles from Atlanta, Georgia, and is situated on the Etowah River, a tributary of the Coosa River.
Lunch and Learn lecture will take place at the Bartow History Museum located at 4 E. Church Street in downtown Cartersville. Parking is available next to the building. The lecture is free to members and included with the price of admission for not-yet members. Guests are invited to bring a lunch beginning at 11:45 a.m. and the program will begin at noon.
