In recognition of the 100th anniversary of the tragic sinking of the Titanic, on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 from noon until 1:00 p.m., Bartow History Museum welcomes author and historian, Dan Roper. Mr. Roper, publisher and editor of Georgia Backroads magazine, will discuss his book, We Shall Die Together: Tales of Turmoil, Tragedy and Triumph in Georgia.
The title story of his book tells the tragic story of Isidor and Ida Straus, who perished on Titanic, both of whom spent many years living in Georgia. The RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912 after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton, UK to New York City, US. The sinking of Titanic caused the deaths of over 1,500 people in one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history. On her maiden voyage, she carried 2,224 passengers and crew.
Lunch and Learn lecture will take place at the Bartow History Museumlocated at 4 E. Church Street in downtown Cartersville. Parking is available next to the building. The lecture is free to members and included with the price of admission for not-yet members. Guests are invited to bring alunchbeginning at 11:45 a.m. and the program will begin at noon.
