The biannual Tour of Homes sponsored by the Etowah Valley Historical Society will be held in Cartersville GA Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. and Sunday. November 4, 2012 12 Noon to 4 p.m.
The theme this year is "In and AROUND Main" which reflects the location of the homes in downtown Cartersville. The five homes on this year's tour range in age as to when they were built from 1886 to 1909.
Featured this year are four homes on Main Street. These are the Gilreath-Brosche home, the Strickland-Thacker home (also known as Grand Oaks) the Young-Kennedy-Knight home and the Calhoun-Cope-White home. The fourth home which started life on Main Street was moved to its present location on Etowah Drive, just around the corner from the ones on Main.
Tours begin with purchase of tickets in the 1903 gold domed court house in downtown Cartersville. Shuttle buses will take visitors to the homes and return to court house parking. Tickets are $15 or purchased in groups of 10, $12 each.
Corporate sponsors for this year's tour are Phoenix Air, Cole Law, Attorney and Mediator, Shaw-Hankins Insurance Services, New Riverside Ochre and Century Bank of Georgia.
The Preservation Committe of the EVHS is in charge of the Tour of Homes. The committee is chaired by John Lewis and Dianne Tate, DiAnne Monroe, Sally Tonsmeire and Genie Certain are members of the committee.
