This event is to celebrate National Salvation Army Week (May 13-19, 2013). In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower and the United States Congress declared there to be a week to recognize the work of The Salvation Army. Dwight D. Eisenhower stated, "Among Americans, The Salvation Army has long been a symbol of wholehearted dedication to the cause of brotherhood. In time of war, the men and women of this organization have brought to those serving their country far from home, friendliness and warm concern. In the quieter days of peace, their work has been a constant reminder to us all that each of us is neighbor and kin to all Americans, giving freely of themselves, the men and women of The Salvation Army have won the respect of all."
This year The Salvation Army will be focusing of the work of redemption and hope at The Salvation Army Family Store. The Family Store exists to help fund services and programs for the community. Some things that the Family Stores provide are jobs in the community, availability of affordable clothing to those in need as well as free clothing for those in emergency situations, prescription assistance, emergency financial assistance with utility disconnections and our food pantry. Along with these community life-changing services, the Family Store helps to provide character-building programs to men, women, and children in Bartow County through education, drama programs, children's summer camps, and life skills classes for men, women, and families. These programs teach life skills as well as enrich their spiritual life and are provided at no cost to participants. All of the money raised by the Family Store stays to benefit the people and programs right here in Bartow County.
