    Trey Gaines, Director of the Bartow History Museum will share the history of the 1869 Courthouse building on January 15 from noon to 1 p.m. Gaines will trace the movement of the county seat from Cassville to Cartersville and the completion of a new courthouse in 1873; 4 years after initial construction began. Today, some know this building as the 1869 courthouse, commemorating the year court proceedings commenced in the property. Through his presentation, learn about the many ways the 1869 Courthouse has served the Cartersville and Bartow County community from courtroom to showroom, including courthouse, skating rink, furniture store, history museum, and more and the physical evolution of the building to meet the needs. From making history to telling history, the 1869 courthouse has long played an important role in Bartow County and remains today one of its crown jewels. For nearly 10 years, the museum has welcomed thousands of guests eager to learn more about the people and events that have shaped this area. The presentation is free for members and included in the price of admission to the museum for non-members. In addition, table space is available for those wishing to bring a lunch. About the Speaker Trey Gaines has worked at the Bartow History Museum since 2002 and as director since late 2007. He has a master’s degree in history with a focus on public history and museum studies from the University of West Georgia, and is a member of several professional and historical organizations.
