Join us as we watch a unique astronomical event: seeing Mercury pass in front of the Sun. Although Mercury passes between the Earth and the Sun three times a year, both orbital planes must align for a transit to take place. The transit will begin at 7:35 AM and end at 1:04 PM. Live images will be streamed into the Tellus Theater where Astronomer David Dundee and other Tellus staff will provide commentary. The Museum, Café, Store, and Observatory* will open at 7 AM. In the Bentley Planetarium, special shows about the transit will be presented at 8 and 9 AM. *If skies over Tellus are cloudy, the Observatory will remain closed and we will stream a live feed from another location into the Theater.
