5th ANNUAL TERRY REID HYUNDAI BUICK GMC AND REID RIDGE LODGE DUCK DERBY SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION UNDERWAY

CARTERSVILLE, GA-SEPTEMBER 15, 2015: Advocates for Children is calling on all graduating high school seniors that live in Bartow County to sell Ducks for the chance to win a $5,000 college scholarship thanks to Terry Reid Hyundai Buick GMC and Reid Ridge Lodge.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Terry Reid Group and Reid Ridge Lodge are funding the Duck Derby scholarship competition which helps Advocates for Children sell ducks for their upcoming fundraiser and gives high school seniors a chance to compete for a $5,000 scholarship.

Any high school senior that resides in Bartow County is eligible to compete for the scholarship. The senior, along with help from their friends and family, must sell a minimum of 500 ducks to be eligible for the scholarship. The senior who sells the most ducks will win the $5,000 scholarship which is administered by the Etowah Scholarship Foundation.

Seniors that are interested in participating in the competition should contact Advocates for Children’s administrative office by phone, 770.387.1143 or email DuckDerby@AdvoChild.org. With just a few simple clicks and a quick informational meeting seniors can be selling ducks in a few hours. Each senior has a team page with their information, a profile picture, and an explanation why individuals or corporations should buy ducks from them.

In 2014, Advocates for Children honored the Laughridge family with a Lifetime Achievement Award to show gratitude for their commitment to the organization. “The Lifetime award is not given every year, and is reserved to honor those who have contributed to Advocates for Children for many years and in various ways. Claudia, Terry and Matt Laughridge have been incredibly generous with their time, talents and treasure. Currently serving her second term on Advocates’ board of trustees, Claudia brings unrivaled passion and enthusiasm to her role” said Karen White, Advocates for Children executive vice president.

The Laughridges donated the grand prize Duckmobile for four consecutive years, a tremendous gift to the organization. Since 2011 with Matt as the driving force, the Laughridges have sponsored the Duck Derby scholarship competition for graduating high school seniors. The scholarship program has generated financial success for the Duck Derby, while also providing a great chance for post-secondary education or entrepreneurship for Bartow’s youth.

Beyond their outstanding dedication to Duck Derby, Terry Reid Hyundai Buick GMC has loyally sponsored other Advocates for Children events including the Spring Benefit gala, Texas Hold ‘em tournaments, golf tournaments, and more. The Laughridges have opened the doors of their businesses to host Advocates for Children events, and they have even more graciously opened the doors of their home to host an incredible luncheon for the organization’s donors.

“Claudia, Terry and Matt are each passionate about children, and fully dedicated to making this community a better place to be a child. Advocates is fortunate to have the generous support of this family, and our community is blessed to claim them as our own” said White.

Each of us can make a huge difference in the lives of children through the giving of our time and support of events like the Duck Derby.

Advocates for Children strengthens our community of families by offering safety, comfort and hope to children and preventing child abuse in all its forms. To learn more about Advocates and the services they offer, call 770.387.1143 or visit www.AdvoChild.org.
