In the fall of 2022, Big Note Music opened its first brick and mortar location, at 136 Market Square, in the Hobby Lobby Shopping Center, next to Buddy’s Furniture. In addition to their retail offerings, Big Note Music announces a new venture here in Bartow County. Southeast Music Institute is a musical instrument repair trade school that has opened within the Big Note Music location.
SMI is a private vocational school committed to teaching the trade of musical instrument repair and offering real time experiences for their students. The Band Instrument Repair Course is a 12 month program that will cover woodwinds, brass and percussion instruments. Each student will learn instrument nomenclature, common repair diagnosis, fundamental repair skills, advanced overhaul techniques and instrument maintenance. With over 40 years of experience, our faculty teaches the fundamentals of instrument repair with an emphasis on real world applications.
"A variety of learning strategies will be applied to create an exciting and engaging experience," explains Jim Schmelzer, owner of SMI. "Our goal is to have our students Job Ready on day 1 of their career."
