WALESKA, Ga. - Reinhardt University is once again hosting the Northwest Georgia Regional Science and Engineering Fair (NWGARSEF). The fair takes place virtually Feb. 4 and 5. The deadline to register and upload the submission video is Friday, Jan. 14. Registration is $15 per student. The registration link and all registration and submission guidelines can be found at

The NWGARSEF is open to students in public, private, and home schools from any of the 17 counties in northwest Georgia (Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Dade, Dawson, Fannin, Floyd, Forsyth, Gilmer, Gordon, Lumpkin, Murray, Pickens, Union, Walker and Whitfield).
New for 2022, the fair is open to elementary students in addition to middle school and high school students. Selected middle school and high school projects from the NWGARSEF will be chosen to compete at the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair, hosted at the University of Georgia in Athens. Although elementary students cannot compete at the state level, Reinhardt is excited to offer this experience at the regional fair.
Participants are asked to submit videos about their project, no longer than 10 minutes in length, for judging. Students can submit a project in one of 22 categories in the areas of life sciences; medicine and health; math, computer, and engineering; earth, energy, and environment; or physical sciences.
“This fair provides important opportunities for students,” says Keith Ray, instructor of biology at Reinhardt and co-director for NWGARSEF. “It involves them in the process of science, experimentation, and observation. They also get feedback from judges that can help them move their projects forward. In-person meetings – as we return to them - act as places for students to network and develop relationships as they embark in STEM careers.”
This is the second year that Reinhardt has hosted the NWGARSEF virtually. As part of the virtual event, participants can live stream opening ceremonies on Feb. 4 and the announcement of winners on the evening of Feb. 5.

Start planning now for 2023, too. Reinhardt University has agreed to host NWGARSEF in 2023 – in person! “We look forward to seeing these projects, hearing the presentations, developing meaningful networking opportunities – and to showcase our university as a wonderful venue for the fair.”
