Greater Community Bank Celebrates 25 Years of Service

Greater Community Bank is celebrating 25 years of service across Northwest Georgia. Originally named Greater Rome Bank, the bank opened its doors for business on February 26, 1996 to serve the growing population of Rome and Floyd County.  Over the last quarter century, the Bank has thrived, expanding into both the Calhoun and Cartersville markets.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our loyal customers and shareholders over the past 25 years. Their trust in us and their commitment to the bank has allowed Greater Community to flourish,” stated David J. Lance, President and CEO.  “The devotion and dedication of our talented team have ensured that we remain a thriving community bank.”

Greater Community Bank was founded in 1996 by Thomas “Tom” D. Caldwell, III along with a group of his closest friends and associates. Mr. Caldwell served Floyd County as a community banker and community servant his entire career.  It was during a time when mergers and acquisitions were at an all-time high in the banking industry and Mr. Caldwell wanted to ensure that Floyd County continued to have a locally owned and operated community bank.  Ever since that time, Greater Community Bank has been highly committed to offering extraordinary service combined with competitive financial products.  Mr. Caldwell served as the bank’s Chairman of the Board until his retirement in May, 2014.

“It’s hard to believe it has been 25 years since we opened our doors,” said Tom Caldwell.  “We have come a long way from our vision to the growth we celebrate today.  I am so proud of our team for their hard work throughout the years.  The journey has been one I will forever cherish, especially traveling it with lifelong friends.”

On February 18, 2021 the Bank honored founder Tom Caldwell with a special dedication of the “Thomas C. Caldwell, III Board Room” at the Main Office.

The Bank expanded into the Gordon County market in 2011.  Since that time, the Calhoun office has experienced immense growth and received overwhelming community support.   The Calhoun office is currently undergoing a state-of-the-art renovation, doubling its footprint, and enhancing technology.  In 2019 the Bank saw a tremendous opportunity for growth in the Bartow County market, and opened a temporary office at 32 W. Main Street in downtown Cartersville.  A new permanent office is scheduled to be constructed at 2 Dixie Avenue.

Giving back comes naturally for Greater Community Bank.  In 2020 alone, Greater Community donated more than $60,000.00 to over 50 well-deserving organizations.  To commemorate the 25th Anniversary, the bank will couple those contributions with talent and time by dedicating in excess of 2,500 volunteer hours to support local community non-profits.  “As a community bank, we have a passion to help our neighbors thrive,” said Lance.

As GCB celebrates 25 years, it is also celebrating the strongest year in the history of the Bank.  As of year-end 2020, assets, loans, deposits and income were each up over 20% compared to 2019.

“Our 25th Anniversary is a significant milestone in the life of our bank, and we are grateful for the exceptional growth we have experienced over that time”, said Bob Berry, Chairman.  “As we move forward, we will remain focused on providing unparalleled service to our customers with our team of exceptional bankers.  These are the qualities that have contributed to being named the best bank for three consecutive years in the communities we serve.”
