Piedmont Clinic Welcomes Its First Orthopedic Oncologist, Gregory Y. LaChaud, M.D., of OrthoAtlanta
Based out of Brookhaven and Piedmont West Clinics, Dr. LaChaud Is One of Only Five Fellowship-Trained Orthopedic Oncologists in Georgia

Atlanta, Ga. – Piedmont and its partner OrthoAtlanta are excited to announce the hiring of Gregory Y. LaChaud, M.D., who specializes in orthopedic oncology – making him the first such specialist among the 3,000 physicians in the Piedmont Clinic.

Dr. LaChaud is one of only five fellowship-trained orthopedic oncologists in Georgia. He performed his fellowship at the University of Florida. He will see patients out of OrthoAtlanta’s clinics in Brookhaven and Piedmont West. He also will participate on Piedmont Oncology’s clinical tumor boards.

“When we entered into our partnership with OrthoAtlanta almost three years ago, it was our goal – which we have achieved – to provide comprehensive care close to home through their talented physicians, therapists and employees through the Piedmont Orthopedics umbrella,” said Charles L. Brown III, CEO of Piedmont’s Physician Enterprise. “Dr. LaChaud adds to the continuum of services we can offer to our patients through his unique training and, through his participation on tumor boards, patients throughout the Piedmont system will benefit from the quality he brings.”

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Gregory LaChaud to Piedmont Orthopedics | OrthoAtlanta,” said Michael J. Behr, M.D., OrthoAtlanta Medical Director. “Dr. LaChaud brings a new level of care to oncology patients throughout the state and southeast. There are only a few orthopedic oncologists in the region, and we are proud to offer a new treatment option to our patients. Dr. LaChaud is coming from one of the premier orthopedic cancer fellowship programs in the country.”

Dr. LaChaud’s practice primarily focuses on treating both benign and malignant tumors. This includes primary bone and soft tissue sarcomas, multiple myeloma, lymphoma, and also metastatic disease affecting the musculoskeletal system. In addition to oncology, Dr. LaChaud performs primary and complex joint reconstructions and deformity correction surgery in non-oncologic patients.

Dr. LaChaud attended Washington University in St. Louis, where he lettered in football all four years while obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville and during his medical training he completed a Medical Scholars Research year at the University of California, Los Angeles, working on a potential treatment for bone forming tumors. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency and decided to stay for the prestigious fellowship in Orthopedic Oncology at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
