Reinhardt University athletics hosts first inaugural golf ball drop fundraiser

Waleska, GA - Reinhardt University Athletics announces The Drop, a golf ball fundraiser to benefit Reinhardt’s Eagle Athletics – one of the premier brands in National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The Drop happens on Oct. 9, at BridgeMill Athletics Club in Canton.

The event features 2,000 golf balls dropped from a helicopter onto a designated target. Prizes are awarded for the nine balls that land closest to the pin and the one ball that land farthest away. The ball closest to the target wins $20,000.

Reinhardt University has a strong tradition of athletic excellence. Eagle athletes continue to find success on the field as well in the classroom. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, during the 2020-21 year, the Eagles earned the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Duard Walker All-Sports Trophy for excellence on the field for the second time in school history, accumulated 162 AAC All-Academic student-athletes, 79 All-Conference players, 14 national championship appearances, 11 regular-season or conference championships, eight AAC Player of the Year recipients and three conference Coach of the Year selections. In the Mid-South Conference (MSC), football and men’s volleyball saw 31 MSC All-Academic student-athletes, 20 All-Conference players, two MSC Player of the Year selections and the Eagles' James Miller was the 2020-21 Ron Finley Appalachian Division Coach of the Year. Additionally, the Eagles combined for 19 NAIA All-Americans, brought home two national championships and one NAIA Coach of the Year.

Perhaps most importantly, Reinhardt Athletics combined for a GPA of 3.23 in 2020-21, with 20 Eagle teams (every competing squad on campus after combining track and field) qualified for NAIA Scholar-Team honors (must have a minimum 3.0-grade point average).

“We are beyond proud of our athletes, both on the field and off,” said Jeffrey Pourchier, assistant director of athletics. “We want to continue to support them in everyway possible, which means continued improvement to our athletic facilities and our student-athlete experience. Our goal with The Drop is to raise $100,000 to benefit Reinhardt University’s student-athletes and our athletic programs.”
