Mission:
The Department of Sport Management is built upon sound business principles and is committed to the relationship between sport and business. Through undergraduate and graduate instruction, accompanied by experiential learning avenues, the program engages and prepares future Christian leaders for a diverse and professional industry.
The College of Business offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in the following concentrations: Computer Information Systems, General Business, Accounting, Management, Marketing, and Sport Management. Graduate degrees include an MBA, MBA with concentrations in Healthcare Management as well as Sport Management along with a Master of Accountancy, Master of Management, and a Master of Management with a concentration in Non-Profit Human Services. The Business Administration department also offers a minor for Shorter students seeking a major in another academic area, which includes Economics, Accounting, General Business, Management, Marketing, Business Law, and Sport Management. The College of Business is the largest academic college at Shorter University and is heavily involved in the Rome-Floyd Communities as well as the Northwest region of the state.
The Sport Management (SPM) program at Shorter University has been widely recognized 12 times since 2017 for its excellence in traditional, online, and graduate Sport Management Program ranking across the country. The SPM Units (UG: Traditional and Online as well as the MBA Sport Management) received full accreditation in October 2020 per Commission of Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA) which serves as the accrediting body for all Sport Management Programs. The SPM major is the largest major within the College of Business in which our students are required to complete extensive 500-hour internships and have the opportunity to volunteer for Mega Sporting events such as the Super Bowl and Final Four. Our online Sport Management BBA Degree has been recognized twice in the last three years as the #1 Online Sport Management Degree in the United States.
Job Summary:
The Shorter University College of Business Department of Sport Management invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Sport Management with a start date of August 2024.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, online and traditional, across the Sport Management curriculum. The successful candidate should have broad credentials to cover Sport Management at the undergraduate and potentially graduate levels. Practical experience is also preferred for individuals who can convey experiences into the classroom model. This individual will be a key constituent in the community and be involved in local sporting organizations and the local Chamber.
Required Qualifications/Experience:
- 18 hours of Graduate Sport Management Courses
- Statement of Faith
- A signed commitment of the Shorter University mission and acceptance of the Personal Lifestyle Statement found on our website.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
- An earned doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Sport Management or in a closely related field.
- Practical work experience that will elevate academic instruction in the classroom.
- Visionary leadership skills aiming towards the growth of the College of Business and recruitment of Sport Management majors.
- Experience in undergraduate and graduate teaching at the college level.
- Experience with online teaching, preferably in the Canvas delivery system
- Advising college students through their degree plan to graduation
